Calculate the total cutting length for steel reinforcement bars, accounting for clear cover, hooks, and bend deductions.

📐 Formula & Method

Cutting Length = Member Length - (2 × Cover) + Hooks - (Bends × 2d). Standard hook is 9d, bend deduction for 90° is 2d.

Cutting Length = L − (2×Cover) + Hooks − Bends

📋 Worked Example

4m beam, 25mm cover, 12mm bar, two 9d hooks:
• Net = 4000 - 50 + (18×12) = 4166 mm

Why subtract bend deduction?

When steel is bent, its outer length increases. To get the correct final shape, we must subtract a small amount (2d for 90°) from the cut piece.
