Lap Length Calculator – Rebar Splicing

Quality Inspector
Kaka

Find the safe lap length for reinforcement bars to ensure continuity of stress transfer between spliced bars.

📐 Formula & Method

Lap length is typically expressed as a multiple of the bar diameter (D). Standard practice is 50D for tension and 40D for compression.

Lap Length = Diameter × Multiplier (e.g., 50)

📋 Worked Example

For a 12mm bar in tension (50D):
• Lap Length = 12 × 50 = 600 mm

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

It is the overlap provided between two reinforcement bars when the required length exceeds the manufactured length (12m).
